What
makes the Expressways to Learning®
(ETL) systems different from other programs?
Expressways To Reading® (ETR) and Expressways To Math® (ETM)
are unique because of the way all of their contents are integrated,
correlated, and sequenced. The specific elements employed in each program
engage both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously, allow for quick and
easy customization to accommodate each student's specific needs, and
establish a firm learning foundation utilizing all of the elements
essential to success in reading, math, and beyond.
Most importantly, Expressways
To Learning® educational systems neurologically strengthen the
learning pattern of the student. This is due to the Auditory-Visual
Impression Pairing method (AVIP) developed by Dr. Jack E. Hoes.

What
is AVIP?
Auditory-Visual Impression Pairing is a teaching
technique that combines visual, auditory, and motor-kinesthetic modes of
learning. Within ETL's specific lessons, auditory and visual
activities are combined in two exercises, with each exercise requiring a
motor-kinesthetic response. AVIP operates on the knowledge that when a
student sees a word (visual), says the word (auditory), then writes the
word (motor-kinesthetic) in series of tens, the brain takes the
information from short-term memory and automatically stores it in
long-term memory.

How is a student
placed in the program?
Each student is given an initial test. The scores assist us in placing the
student into the proper learning system and reveals areas needing the most
attention. Subsequent testing is scheduled after the student has been in
the program for sufficient time to mark progress. Expressways To
Learning® systems are all individualized.

How much time is required?
At least five 45 to 60 minute session per per week are recommended. The
home/center study alternatives allow the student to have 2-4 sessions per
week at Stilwell's and the rest at home. The student will be assisted in
planning his/her schedule. The program features a Student Record Manager,
which records the activities of each session, options chosen, errors made,
and time utilized.

How long before I see
progress?
Each student is an individual, so the length of time before varies before
progress is made. Most parents comment that the first change they see is
in the student's attitude toward themselves and reading or math. It may be
the first time the pupil actually has hope and shows an enthusiasm for
learning. See our Success Stories page
for reports of how quickly others have seen dramatic results throughout
the nation using Expressways To Learning® educational
systems.

How
long does it take for a student to complete the program?
It will vary from student to student depending upon their age and the
severity of the problem. Our goal is for each student to reach his or her
potential.

Is it possible to
use a Macintosh computer?
Yes. Macintosh software is available, though a PC is preferable since all
of our upgrades are with PC.
Top
Do I have to be
connected to the internet?
No. All that is needed for the lessons at the student's home is the
required software which is installed on the student's home computer.
